Today has seen a number of releases that look to be good buys, notably one of our picks of the vintage, Smith-Haut-Lafitte.
Both red and white “Smith” have developed quite a following over the years as the Cathiards, owners since 1990, have invested a great deal of time, effort and money into this beautiful property. Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc is quite excellent and, as ever, a wine with its own quite unique character.
From the right bank we have a number of releases, the jewel of which is La Conseillante, a wine that we loved. At £639 per dozen this is a very sensible price for what is a lovely wine (and one with a relatively low production). This will be Jean-Michel Laporte’s last vintage of Conseillante, and he signs off with a typically restrained and classy effort, one that is Pomerol at its most elegant.
